Dusty went blind even with the hair cut short. Now that he is very old, he jumps and cries and tries to bite when I try to trim his hair. He can barely walk and will die soon. We can't afford vet and grooming bills when we can't pay our own medical bills. My wife is 70 and cannot get social security or medicare. We can barely afford to feed the dogs.
My Tobin understands the end of a dogs life. He doesn't have dreads, but his long hair festoons our home because although he was an outdoor dog, when we thought he was dying, we allowed him privilages inside. That was last July. The house is now destroyed, and he is still living.
PE managed to destroy the carpet in the two years before I had to have him put to sleep. He was diagnosed with kidney failure in 2005 and I had to have him put to sleep in 2007. He was 15 years old. Medical expenses can be so terribly steep. There's not much to be done at this stage of Dusty's life other than to be kind to him. He's simply old--which ain't for the faint of heart! He's lucky to have lived his life with people like you and Red.

All the time Dusty spent in Netherworld looking for news, making reports did have its effect on him.
He could come star as Chewbacca in our new NG4J Star Wars production.
